West Michigan Top 10

Another baseball season has ended and West Michigan was well represented by our teams – including the first Division 1 State Championship since West Ottawa’s in 2003.

As always in the state tournament, West Michigan’s best teams faced off against each other, causing some very good teams to exit earlier than they would have hoped.

Congratulations to all the teams and good luck in 2012!

Here’s the Final Top 10 for 2011

  1. Rockford (32-6)
There is no disputing that the state’s top D1 team is the top team in West Michigan

  2. Portage Central (35-3)
The dream team’s march to the title is stopped short by Rockford in the Semi-Finals

  3. Gull Lake (38-2)
An amazing season for the Blue Devils ends at the hands of eventual state champs St. Clair

  4. Grand Ledge (35-2)
Another great year for the Comets before falling to Portage Central

   5. Grand Rapids Christian (30-8)
A young team that surprised many on it’s way to a state runner-up finish

  6. Hudsonville (29-5)
3 of the Eagles’ losses where to state champs Rockford, including in the Regional

  7. Hamilton (23-8)
Won the OK Green and the District, but lost to Gull Lake in the Regionals

  8. Forest Hills Central (23-6)
Another Rockford victim in the MHSAA tournament

  9. Middleville (21-4)
A loaded team that went 1 and out in the Districts thanks to GR Christian

  10. Grand Rapids Catholic Central (26-10)
Seemed to come out of nowhere to reach the Quarterfinals where they lost to Gull Lake
