Shawn Wyckoff’s Zeeland East team returns a strong lineup in 2010 and Wyckoff is looking for a very good season from his experienced team.
“We are very excited about the possibilities this season”, Wyckoff said . “A lot of these guys did not play winter sports and therefore were able to focus entirely on baseball this off season. I am hopeful that all the hard work they put into the off season will pay off with a fun and successful season”.
The OK Green is very tough again in 2010. The Chix will need to perform well to compete with Hamilton, Holland Christian and Byron Center.
“In addition to the OK Green, we also have a tough district to compete in” said Wyckoff. “We hope to finish the season strong”.
The Chix are led by Senior Co-Captain Zach Harbison. This will be Harbison’s 4th year on Varsity and he will be the team’s #1 catcher.
“Zach was All District in 2009 when he hit .420 and led the team in stolen bases with 19″ said Wyckoff.
Junior Michael Meade will return for his 3rd Varsity season and will be the team’s #1 starter on the mound. “Michael is also one of our top infielders”, said Wyckoff. “We look for big things out of him as he continues to improve from his 2009 season”.
Senior Co-Captain TJ South returns for his 3rd year on the Varsity. “TJ is our top outfielder. He broke several school records in 2009 with his offensive output”, said Wyckoff. “We are hoping that he will have an even better 2010″.
Junior Co-Captain Patrick Elzinga was on the Varsity last year, though his season was shortened by a knee injury.
“Pat will be one of our top 3 pitchers this season as well as a regular member of our infield either at shortstop or third base”, Wyckoff said.
Senior Sam Bruns will likely be the starting first baseman in 2010. “Sam has a great passion for the game and we hope for big things from him in 2010″, said Wyckoff.
The Zeeland East JV squad went 23-2 last season and several players from that team will play key roles on the Varsity in 2010, led by Trevor Inman, Cody Bloemendal, KJ Alfaro, Marcus Harbison, and TJ VanDyken.
“Inman will see time at the catcher position as well as 2nd base and pitcher”, said Wyckoff. Bloemendal will likely see time in the left field position as well as pitching”.
Alfaro is in line to be the starting right fielder while Marcus Harbison (younger brother of Zach) and will see time at the shortstop spot. VanDyken will also see time in the outfield or possibly 3rd base.

You know it doesn’t really count to say someone is all-district when they were only an honorable mention… Just saying.
To the person from West who doesn’t have the guts to leave their name….I am not sure who you are referring to when you say honorable mention All District. Zach Harbison was an all district player. He was HM All conference. All district is a higher honor. No players from Zeeland West got this honor EVER! Ask your coach because you are apprently misinformed.
