forest hills northern may have lost two one run ball games to west but raped unity christian in the freemont tourney 12-2 and unity beat egr and tied hamilton….. im confused how two losses puts fhn out of the top ten but egr has 6 losses and were ranked higher…………..

We can’t base rankings on “this team beat that team who beat this team” alone. We take into account many things including:

our opinion when watching the teams play
    pitching and pitching depth
    consistency of hitting
    quality of schedule
opinions of coaches and opposing coaches
    opinions of trusted associates

The rankings are nothing more than our opinion. We have now seen every team in the Top 10 play or have trusted associates (summer coaches, college coaches, opposing coaches) who have seen them play. Most we have seen multiple times.

The #1 question we ask when considering two teams for a spot (and ranking the teams in order) is:

“Who would win a 3 out of 5 game series between this team and that team”. That’s where depth of pitching really comes into play.

But, there is more to it than that.

It isn’t a science, it’s more of an art – with some guessing and opinion thrown in the mix. As I said – it all boils down to our opinion.

Also, FHC plays FHN at 11AM at Gainey Field this Saturday.

That could be an ideal time to compare the two. It looks like FHN will be throwing their #1 Phil Haywood. FHC will likely throw #1 or #2 or #3 in that game.

If they get these match ups, it may be a good indicator of how good FHN is in comparison to a top D1 team.

    Hudsonville is so over rated..
they should have lost to byron center but byrons soph. reliever came in to blow the 10-2 lead in the 6th inning..
Who do they have for pitching? Not a dominant force, anyone with a good fastball can shut them down as byron centers matt slotman dominated the hudsonville lineup through 5 innings with no offspead at all.

  • Johnny

Jerry Ferris has a pretty dang good fastball and some good offspeed to go with it and hudsonville rocked him joey.

  • Bill

    Joey,

Slot didn’t dominate anyone there were guys all over the bases and a shady ump. Byron Center Soph came in at 10 – 5 and gave up 3. Patterson gave up the final 2 runs. Side note: Hudsonville fans both parents and students are the whiniest bunch of babies I’ve ever seen. Crying the entire game.

  • Johnny

Well they just won the OK- Red championship so I’d say they’re a pretty dang good team.

  • George

It doesnt mean they aren’t whiny..the ok red isnt that good anyway

  • ferris

hudsonville is a good team. and the ok red is a very good conference.

  • Anonymous

they aren’t that good..byron center went 2-2 against the ok red and shouldve beaten hudsonville..their two wins were against jenison and west ottawa who are good teams..therefore completely overrated!
