Final West Michigan Top 10 for 2010

A great season of High School Baseball has come to an end. No state championships for West Michigan Teams, but several came close.

Unfortunately for some teams (and fortunately for others), the MHSAA State Tournament is “one-and-out”.

This produces a champion in each Division, but that isn’t always the best team. They are, however, the best teams in the tournament!

Here then, is our final West Michigan Top 10 for the 2010 season:

  1. Grand Ledge
38-2… record-breaking season ends in Regional Semi-Final to eventual champion

  2. West Catholic
32-4… great season ends in close loss in Finals

  3. Portage Northern
30-6-2… top D1 team in state for most of season – ran out of gas at the end

  4. Portage Central
29-5… cross-town rival sent them home in opening game of tourney

  5. Forest Hills Central
28-5… school’s most talented team ever, but failed to reach Quarterfinals again

  6. West Ottawa
25-9… beat FHC to win Regional, but couldn’t get past Quarterfinal

  7. Hamilton
26-5-1… perhaps top D2 team in state to lose in District play

   8. Forest Hills Eastern
25-4-1… couldn’t stop FHN in District opener

   9. Climax-Scotts
32-1… looked past Lawrence in Regional Semi-Final

  10. Lakeshore
26-11… struggled early in season – but poured it on in the tourney to reach Semi-Finals

I just want to thank you for the information and format of the site. It gives us a chance to express opinions and show passion for our kids – teams – area. Though some of the comments become personal, most are well meaning and supportive. GR / West Michigan baseball is as good as anywhere in the state.

    Thanks, I appreciate the comment.

Even though the season is done, we will still be linking to stories, producing new stories and features.

    Thanks for reading!

Really enjoyed your site and thought for most of the time pretty objective with good articles and information to show case the west side of Michigan baseball. Being a former west side player and coached for some early years in the west side, it was fun to access information from your site.

I do agree that personal opinions cloud your judgement in some areas and comments that you made, but that happens to all of us. Your site has definitely brought out some competitive feelings and comments from other areas of the state of Michigan and that usually makes it very fun to read and watch the action on the field when West meets other areas teams.

For me, we thank you for your comments on how “Grand Ledge was going to win with ease” over Ann Arbor Pioneer in the regionals. Bulletin board material is always fun! :) And I applaud you on your convictions and stating them on this site. No hidden agendas! Keep up the good work and we will be back to your site regularly when baseball appears again for some more fun in 2011. I will be back to see the fall and winter sports comments as well.

This site has been a wonderful way to keep WM baseball in the forefront of many. There is too little coverage of local baseball and the participants go thru much to play a great sport in Michigan’s spring weather. Thanks for all of your hard work. You should be applauded by all. Riverview was the better team against Lakeshore in the Quarterfinal game
