2011 Players to Watch: Trent Pell

Trent Pell of Eaton Rapids may be the best player in Michigan that you have never heard of.

2011 will be his fourth season as the starting SS for the Greyhounds and in that time, Pell has put up some amazing numbers.

An All-Conference selection all 3 seasons, Pell hit .566 as a Sophomore and was also All-District and All-Area.

He hit .472 as a Freshman and was also All-District.

Pell’s .560 batting average last season led the entire Lansing area and helped him earn Second Team All-State honors in Division 2.

The Lansing State Journal has already said that he may be the best senior in 2011.

After his senior campaign, we expect Pell to be putting his name all over the Michigan State Record Book.

His career batting average after 3 varsity seasons is .528 and is currently the 6th highest in state history.

In addition, Pell has 82 stolen bases which is just 19 short of getting in the state record book. His 132 career hits leave him needing 43 more to make the record book. Finally, his 32 career doubles leaves him just 13 short of that list.

Even with his outstanding performance for the past 3 seasons, the left-handed hitting Pell has flown a bit under the radar around the state.

Pell played this summer with the top Around the Horn team coached by Matt Sheets out of Kalamazoo – getting good exposure around the Midwest.

He is also playing this fall with the Motor City Pride Fall Showcase Team.

Great showings at showcases have started to attract the college scouts to his quick bat and his speed (his best official 60 time is 6.46) and the recruiters have started to show serious interest.

Ohio University, Toledo, Purdue and lots of smaller schools are showing interest.

Pell will certainly be a top recruit for whatever college he choose to attend. Keep an eye on our site for more on this exciting player in the coming season!
