Jordan Tillman of Portage Central will be fulfilling a long time dream next fall when he travels down the road to play baseball and continue his education at Western Michigan University.
The talented center fielder for the Mustangs committed to the Broncos last spring when former head coach Randy Ford was still in charge.
Tillman is even more excited to play for Western’s new head coach, Billy Gernon:
“Coach Gernon is amazing. I am really looking forward to being under his wing,” said Tillman.
“Western has some great facilities and I’ve been around a lot of Broncos in my life!”
Tillman will join former Portage Central teammate Monty Porter on the Bronco’s roster.
A stellar high school career at Portage Central still has a year to go for Tillman, of course.
A starter as a sophomore, Tillman is one of West Michigan’s top center fielders.
His speed not only helps him steal bases at will – he covers a lot of ground while taking away hits in the outfield.
With his nice swing, Tillman hit .400, Slugged .565, scored 43 runs and stole 24 bases last season for the Mustangs.
For his efforts, he was named 1st Team All-Conference and All-District.
He was also an honorable mention on the Kalamazoo Gazette All-Area team.
The Mustangs finished 29-5 last season and despite the loss of Monty Porter, we expect Tillman and teammate Ryan Krill to lead Portage Central to another great season.
Tillman played summer baseball with the Maroons Training Academy out of Kalamazoo.
Playing tournaments around the Midwest, he hit .428 and stole 24 bases.
The added experience of a competitive summer season will surely help Tillman put up great numbers this spring – and prepare him to help Coach Gernon and the Broncos!
