Long known for having one of the state’s best baseball programs, it may surprise many to know that Hudsonville had never won an OK Red Conference Championship.
Until last season.
Skylar Hoke was a big part of that campaign to win one of the state’s best baseball leagues.
Hoke, a strong right-handed pitcher, went 5-0 in conference play.
He had an incredible ERA of just 1.01 and a batting average against of .186 in a conference known for big hitters.
For his performance, Hoke was named First Team All-Conference.
A great student, he was also named Academic All-State.
When not pitching, Hoke helps the Eagles by playing outfield, third base and first base. An easy going leader, Hoke has been named as a captain for the upcoming 2011 season.
“This coming high school season is hopefully going to be a very special one” said Hoke. “I’m thrilled with how the baseball program has been at Hudsonville and the group of guys and coaches we have for this upcoming season. I can’t wait for it to begin!”
In the summer, Hoke played on the top Diamonds 18U team coached by Billy Peterson.
“Nothing beats having a very successful summer with guys that I will be life long friends with” said Hoke. “Winning 3 tournaments along with making memories that will last forever made this summer my best one yet.”
Hoke, and his high 80′s fastball, has been getting some pretty heavy recruiting from many schools.
Leading the way has been Ohio State University, Oakland University, University of North Carolina at Asheville, Grand Valley State University, Northwood University and Hillsdale College.
“This whole recruiting process has been very exciting and truly a blessing” said Hoke. “I’m looking forward to making a decision that best benefits me for my future in academics and baseball.”
