Nathaniel White a hard throwing lefty at Hamilton High School had a very good season on the mound in 2010 for the Hawkeyes. However, on a team loaded with talent, he may have been a bit overlooked.
His talent is what has him joining teammate RJ Flowers as a “2011 Player to Watch”.
White didn’t pitch as many innings as he normally would be expected to since he was on a staff that included two All-District pitchers in Evan Mudd and Alex Tenckinck, plus Carter DeBoe, who is now playing at D1 Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW).
He still put up some great numbers his junior year, going 5-1 with an ERA of just 1.66.
He averaged 10 strikeouts per 7 innings pitched, had a K to BB ratio of 6 to 1 and allowed just 5 hits per 7 innings.
In his first five innings on the hill this spring, White struck out 13 and walked just one. He also threw a 4-hit shutout against Zeeland West and pitched very well against traditional powerhouse Mount Pleasant.
“Nathaniel has just been dominate at times” says Hamilton Head Coach Ken DeGood.
“He has a lot of movement on his fastball, but he also has a great curve. The command that he has gained with his pitches in the last year has really made the difference.”
His ability to dominate a game showed itself this summer. White played for both the Elite Baseball 18U team and the Hamilton 17U team.
He threw no-hitters for both.
This fall, White attended a showcase at IPFW and really liked the campus and the coaching staff. After being recruited extensively by the coaches, White decided to join his former Hamilton teammate DeBoe and signed with the Mastodons.

Coach DeGood expects White to have a great year for the Hawkeyes in 2011 and to do well at the collegiate level.
“Nathaniel is very athletic and this has also helped him on the mound. His balance is very good which allows him to keep throwing strikes” said Degood.
“His tall lanky frame will also allow for growth and an even better fastball in the future.”
Look for White to lead the Hawkeyes to another great season in 2011!
